Poverty isn’t a limited experience. People across the world experience the pains of this devastating scenario due to various circumstances – whether ongoing or unexpected, such as a natural disaster.
In Puerto Rico, the people we serve struggle with both. While poverty has been a long-term struggle in the U.S. territory, the devastation from Hurricane Maria in 2017 has only created deeper pockets for poverty to linger.
That’s why Jake’s Diapers concentrates some of its efforts with our various partners in Puerto Rico and is so thankful for your support in lifting this group up.
Here’s a look back at some of the lingering effects around the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Maria:
- Hurricane Maria sheds light on pre-existing poverty
- Influx of calls to Crisis Hotlines since the storm
- Babies trapped in need of formula
- Period Product Pilot Project launches in Puerto Rico

About Our Diaper Drop Partners
Puerto Rico is just one of our areas featured in our 12 Drops of Christmas series. Jake’s Diapers aims to shed light on the stories of the people we serve to increase awareness about the impact a donation of hygiene products can have on a single individual.
Make your impact today! A donation of $16 solves diaper need for moms and babies like the ones in our story.
