Kaukauna, WI- Jake’s Diapers is proud to announce the Dairyland Diaper Drive: a state-wide cloth diaper drive to reduce diaper need for families here in Wisconsin. 1 in 3 U.S. families struggle with diaper need, defined as the lack of an adequate supply of diapers to keep a baby clean, dry, and healthy.
Cloth diapers are an option to solving the diaper need. Disposable diapers can be costly, $1500 or more to diaper a baby from birth to potty training. For Jake’s Diapers, the cost to provide a complete set of cloth diapers to a baby in need is just $231, a considerable savings both economically and environmentally compared to disposable diapers. It’s important to note each baby in disposable diapers generates one ton of garbage that takes over 300 years to decompose, and diapers account for 15% of the waste in our landfills.
Cloth diapers have come a long way in design in recent years (no more pins!). Modern designs are extremely similar in use to disposables, except they can be washed and re-used. Modern day cloth diapers also last longer than the diapering period of a child. This means there is a re-sale value or future savings on diapering additional children.
According to the U.S. Census, 68% of people living at or below the poverty line live in a home with a washer and dryer. For daycares, cloth diapers are an option, and can’t be refused per Wisconsin state licensing regulations. Modern day cloth diapers are an affordable, adorable option for babies of all economic standing.
The Dairyland Diaper Drive runs from June 1st to June 30th, and cloth diapers can be dropped off in donation receptacles found at any of The Learning Shop’s 6 locations throughout Wisconsin, as well as at Nicki’s Diapers in Madison and Green Baybeez in De Pere. Monetary donations are also a blessing, and can be mailed or donated online (https://goto.gg/23935) and all funds donated will be used to solve diaper need for babies here in Wisconsin, including babies of local Veterans. On Wednesday, June 15th donations made online will be matched at 50%. Jake’s Diapers and the Center for Suicide Awareness have partnered together in an innovative collaboration to help our local Veterans, many of whom are suffering from PTSD and other traumatic illnesses; in addition to being impacted by suicide.
