Jake’s Provides ‘All the Smiles’ Via Quality Basic Needs Donations

As a Good360 community redistribution partner, Jake’s Diapers  acts as an essential resource to supply basic needs to local organizations and individuals facing economic crisis because of COVID-19.

As shelters and other basic needs services reopen operations since shutting down for COVID-19, the organizations need to adjust to changing needs and health safety practices because of the pandemic.

“We want to make sure while we’re providing this safe place away from the elements we’re also providing them a safe place from COVID-19 and everything else going on right now,” Tony Schneider, Pillars Volunteer Manager, said during an interview with WBAY.com. Pillars, a homeless shelter and low-Income, affordable housing resource, re-opened its doors in early July.

Jake’s Diapers has adjusted to a change in demand as well, with literally hundreds of thousands of basic needs items delivered, sorted and distributed through our warehouse on a monthly basis – to partners such as Pillars.

Kim Juve, of Pillars, said the items the nonprofit is able to provide to its clients because of Jake’s Diapers make a world of a difference. For example, a recent shipment to Jake’s Diapers included a lot of donated new clothing – with an emphasis on new. People so often get used items donated, that this type of donation packs an extra punch.

“Just the smiles you see on their faces,” Kim said, “When you’re able to give them those things, knowing they are able to get new and not used.  … They get so excited and feel blessed by that.”

Kim also works with the Hope Center in Appleton and because of items available through Jake’s they were able to provide housewares to individuals moving into their first apartments or homes, and without any other supplies for that new home, such as: utensils, mattresses, bedding, lamps and more.

Kim said the great thing about Jake’s is they are “collaborating with other nonprofits and helping supply them with other things for their dollars to stretch further.”

Kim volunteers on a regular basis at Jake’s Diapers to sort through inventory and distribute to nonprofits in need. As COVID-19 continues to take its economic toll and more people are in need, Jake’s Diapers acts as an essential resource to local organizations and those individuals.

Jake’s offers many of its products to local nonprofits through minimal sharing fees. Kim has secured items such as bug spray, suntan lotion and water bottles for people stuck on the streets during the summer heat.

“Being able to purchase things at such a discounted price has been incredible,” she said. “That has been a huge blessing for us.”
