Sweet Emerald is the baby of her foster family. Born with a cleft palate and other medical challenges, she was abandoned then rescued. Recently, she’s been taking off developmentally! Colleen, her foster Mom, has shared some important milestones she’s hit lately.
Emerald’s most recent accomplishment is sitting independently! Emerald has some motor delays but she’s been wanting to sit up and play with toys for a while now so sitting independently was an exciting milestone for her. She loves to sit up and play with toys and interact with the other kids. The other kids love Emerald a lot. Sometimes a little too much and we have to remind them to play gentle. Emerald will reach for their faces and smile when they call her name. She wants to be up playing with them so I’m sure its only a matter of time before she figures out how to crawl to keep up with them! She gets physical therapy everyday to help strengthen her muscles and although she makes the funniest faces during therapy she is making really good progress!
Thanks to the amazing generosity of our donors, we are able to supply Emerald with a complete supply of cloth diapers for as long as she needs them. By supplying her and the other children with complete cloth diaper supplies, her caregivers are able to allocate precious financial resources to afford her specialized therapies and surgeries. Just this past Monday she had surgery to repair her cleft palate!
Sadly, orphan children with special needs are less likely to be adopted. However, with corrective surgeries and specialized care, the chances of adoption increase dramatically! Right now, 13 children at Sarah’s Covenant Homes have been matched with Forever Families and will be going home soon.
